Printing and polishing the lemon

April 15, 2026

The printed result

Overall, I was satisfied with the result. There was some burr, but it was easy to remove with a clip.

The support layer stuck to the surface so firmly that I could not even scratch it off, it had fused with the model. Some of the prints came out nicely.

Polishing

I ground the models a little so the paint would have a smoother surface to adhere to. This also created a more varied, asymmetrical surface.

Painting

I painted them with acrylic spray paint, which left some unpainted spots. I fixed those with a brush and white acrylic paint.

Notes

I am happy with the result. It is not perfect, and I definitely need to tweak the 3D print settings to get better results, but for this FDDSS presentation, these models work well as lemons.

I will leave the distinguishing marks for the lemon health labels for later, maybe when I make the classification script.
